Our Teething Roller has a very powerful ingredient, which has been used in places like South America culturally as natural a medicine for tooth issues, along with many other ailments, for many many years. That ingredient is Copaiba.
Why we chose Copaiba

When we created this blend, everything came back to one compound found naturally in copaiba resin: Beta-caryophyllene. It belongs to a group of plant compounds called terpenes.

Terpenes are what give plants their scent, but they’re also deeply active in the body. They interact with our biology in ways that go far beyond smell, supporting things like inflammation, immune response, and how we experience discomfort. And beta-caryophyllene is one of the most unique terpenes we’ve come across.

What Beta-caryophyllene actually does

Beta-caryophyllene works with something called the endocannabinoid system. This is one of the body’s core systems for regulating pain and inflammation.

What makes it special is this: It binds specifically to CB2 receptors, which are found throughout the immune system and tissues involved in inflammation. And unlike other compounds, it does this without affecting the brain in a psychoactive way.

What that means for teething

When a baby is teething, there’s real inflammation happening in the gums. Pressure. Swelling. Sensitivity. Beta-caryophyllene helps support the body in a few key ways:

1. It helps reduce inflammation at the source
By activating CB2 receptors, it helps regulate the body’s inflammatory response. Not shutting it down... but calming it.

2. It supports natural pain relief
CB2 activation is closely linked to reducing pain signals in the body. That’s why this compound has been studied for its ability to reduce inflammatory and nerve-related pain.

3. It works with the body, not against it
Instead of numbing or blocking sensation, it supports the body’s own pathways for resolving discomfort. Which is exactly what we want for little ones.

The study that changed everything for me

One of the most compelling things I came across while researching this... Was research specifically looking at copaiba oil-resin in dental and tooth-related inflammation.

In studies on dental pulp and periodontal tissues, copaiba oil-resin showed the ability to reduce inflammation, support tissue healing, and protect surrounding structures in conditions that mimic tooth pain and infection (Pedrinha et al., 2024).

In models of apical periodontitis, where the inner tooth and surrounding tissue become inflamed, copaiba significantly reduced tissue damage and preserved bone and structural integrity around the tooth (Nazário et al., 2025).

And in healing models following tooth extraction, copaiba demonstrated enhanced tissue repair, reduced inflammatory cell presence, and improved bone formation in dental wounds (Dias-da-Silva et al., 2013). Not just masking the pain... but actually calming the inflammatory response behind it.

For me, that was everything. Because teething isn’t just surface-level discomfort. It’s inflammation, pressure, and sensitivity deep in the gums.

Why we keep it gentle

This part matters so much. There are so many teething products that rely on numbing. But that never felt right to me. Your baby is communicating something real. So instead of silencing that signal, we support the body underneath it. Our Teething Roller is carefully diluted and balanced to work in harmony with your baby’s system.
