Our Sniffles Roller began as a natural substitute for vick vapour rub. Vicks contains a variety nasty ingredients: Camphor, Petrolatum (petroleum jelly) , Turpentine oil (deritive from turpentine or “turps” and Fragrance.
We wanted to create something that would have multi synergistic benefits for my daughter when she was unwell. From immune supporting benefits to anti-mucolytic benefits for congestion. The main powerhouse ingredient we want to highlight from our Sniffles Roller is Eucalyptus.
Why we chose eucalyptus and what’s really inside it
When we were formulating the Sniffles Roller, I kept coming back to one key compound found naturally in eucalyptus: Cineole (also called 1,8-cineole). It’s been used traditionally for generations, but what I love is that modern research is now catching up to what nature has always known. Cineole isn’t just “strong smelling” or “clearing”… it actually does something in the airways.
What cineole does in the body
When you gently apply the roller to your little one’s chest or back, you’re not just creating a comforting ritual. You’re delivering plant compounds that interact with the respiratory system in a really beautiful way.
1. It helps break down mucus (mucolytic action)
Cineole works to thin and loosen mucus, making it easier for the body to move it out. For little ones, this matters so much, because they can’t blow their nose properly yet. When mucus is thick and sticky, it just sits there… making everything feel more congested. Cineole helps shift that.
2. It supports clearer airways
By reducing the thickness of mucus and supporting its movement, cineole helps open up the airways. That’s why you often notice your little one breathing a bit easier after using the roller, not forced, not suppressed… just gently supported.
3. It calms irritation in the respiratory tract
Cineole also has anti-inflammatory properties, which means it can help soothe irritated airways. This is especially helpful when there’s that dry, uncomfortable feeling that keeps them unsettled.
Why we don’t go “strong”
This part matters to me. There are so many products out there that are overpowering. They hit you with that intense smell and feel like they’re “working” because they’re strong. But little bodies don’t need force. They need gentle, effective support. That’s why our Sniffles Roller is carefully diluted and balanced, so it supports the body without overwhelming it.
